Assisted Hatching

The procedure of hatching or assisted hatching consists of making a small incision in the zona pellucida of the embryos just before transferring them to the uterus.

The zona pellucida is a protective membrane that physically covers the ovule and the embryo until its implantation.

This laboratory technique whose purpose is to favor, when it is deemed necessary, the exit of the blastocysts from the zona pellucida to enter directly into contact with the maternal uterus and thus facilitate the implantation process.
