Infertility is a term that doctors use when a woman has been able to get pregnant, but that pregnancy has not come to term. If a woman has several spontaneous abortions, that can also be infertility. Female infertility can be caused by physical, hormonal, lifestyle or environmental factors.

After two miscarriages, the risk of having another miscarriage increases to about 26%; after three spontaneous abortions, the risk of having another miscarriage reaches almost 30%.

If you have two or more consecutive miscarriages, you should have tests to determine if there are hidden causes before trying a new pregnancy such as blood tests to detect problems in the hormones or in the immune system, chromosomal studies for you and your partner in order to determine if chromosomes are a factor or procedures to detect uterine problems such as ultrasound or hysteroscopy.

Note clarifying: in Spain it is considered infertile sterility no pregnancy, and infertility to getting pregnant but not getting to  full term (repeated abortions would therefore be synonymous with infertility).
